Pagely Engineers will be performing PHP Lifecycle Management for all websites currently set to use the "Stable" version label (currently 8.0) in Atomic. For more information on how you can view or manage your PHP version preferences, you may check our help guide: https://support.pagely.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000013092-Changing-PHP-Versions
On November 15th - 17th 2023, the version corresponding to "Stable" in Atomic will change from 8.0 to 8.1. Your WordPress applications will automatically be upgraded to use PHP 8.1, which is still supported through November 25, 2024 and will no longer be receiving security updates after that time. Excluding any compatibility issues that may arise, the impact to website availability will be very brief - less than 2 minutes per app - while the version change is being applied.
Zend PHP is a new add-on available at Pagely if your applications are not ready for the update to PHP 8.1 and continued support is needed for PHP 8.0 or PHP 7.4. Please contact our support team if you would like to purchase this add-on for your account. All non-Zend PHP applications will be updated during this maintenance window and no extensions can be provided. The following blog post goes into more depth about the add-on and its features: https://pagely.com/blog/platform-updates-php-7-4-outcomes-upcoming-eol-of-8-0-and-a-new-partnership-with-zend-for-php-lts/
As a proactive measure, we have scanned all apps and identified the ones that will have compatibility problems. Account Owners: We will be sending direct notifications to each Pagely Customer to highlight the apps failing our checks over the next 24-48 hours. Please take a moment to make sure the appropriate Collaborators on your account are enabled to receive Maintenance alerts in Atomic: https://support.pagely.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058630471-Configuring-Account-Activity-Alerts
As with any software upgrade, there is a chance of unforeseen compatibility problems that did not surface during our own testing. Our testing is designed to identify hard failures where the code cannot execute at all. Other, more subtle compatibility problems could still occur when the upgrade to PHP 8.1 is applied, where only certain components are not functioning correctly, or new non-fatal warning messages appear. If you experience these kinds of issues after the upgrade, please contact Pagely Support for assistance: https://support.pagely.com/hc/en-us/articles/114094215332-Contacting-Support
To bypass this maintenance and get the upgrade to PHP 8.1 early, we recommend changing the version yourself from "Stable" to "Latest" (currently 8.1) in Atomic. It is recommended to first test the change on a non-production copy of the app. This article provides steps on creating a staging environment if you do not already have one: https://support.pagely.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001622571-Creating-a-Staging-Environment
